About the artwork

Collaborative Arts & Science workshop project.

Illumination was an Arts and Science schools project for student year 8 to 12,created by artist Tine Bech and scientist Kathryn Harkup. The project offered inspirational light drawing workshops to 10 different schools at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. A two-hour workshop included a lecture on how artists and scientists use light, examples of inspiring light artworks, science experiments, making LED throwies and producing light drawings.

The workshop project ran in conjunction with the development of Tracing Light, a permanent interactive light installation created by Tine Bech and commissioned by UCA, Crafts Study Centre and the Farnham Maltings. Tracing Light explored light and movement and invited audiences to participate and create light trails.

Funded by University for the Creative Arts  (UCA) outreach and University of Surrey outreach in engineering and physics.

What people said

Firstly want to again say a huge thanks for the workshop on Friday – from everyone here at the Warwick (particularly the Science and Arts staffs). We’ve heard some really nice feedback from some of the students on this – and Liz Carter (who was with you for the session) thought it one of the best workshops that she has ever seen. So there ! High praise indeed !
