The Playable City – Recife Brazil Exhibition

The Playable City project explores how culture, technology and play, can shape the future of our cities

Bech is one of the artist in this international initiative which brings together practitioners from Pernambuco Brazil and the UK. Working together, they will develop new playable products and experiences for Recife that use art and technology to engage and inspire audiences, demonstrating how playful experiences can empower citizens and tackle the challenges our future cities face. The project culminates in a Showcase the 11th and 12th April in Recife. The Showcase is an opportunity to experience the playful interventions they have created, and hear thoughts from a range of fantastic speakers.

The Playable City is a Watershed project delivered in collaboration with Brazilian Technology Park Porto Digital and the British Council, as part of the UK/Brazil Transform programme. The project is supported by the British Council’s Creative Economy programme and the Arts Council England.

The Playable City is a new term, imagined as a counterpoint to ‘A Smart City’. A Playable City is a city where people, hospitality and openness are key, enabling its residents and visitors to reconfigure and rewrite its services, places and stories. It is a place where serendipity is rife and there is permission to be playful in public.
