On 30 January, Dr Tine Bech gave an artist talk at The Green House in Utrecht, followed by a guided walk along the I Light U light art route with curator Bastiaan Schoof.
Tine spoke about her approach to light art, the role of play in public space, and why she creates artworks that bring people together through emotional, social and shared experiences. Drawing on her research into interactive art and play, she explored how colour, light and material qualities can invite people to move, respond and participate without the need for instructions or digital interfaces.
Guided by curiosity and play, her practice transforms familiar public spaces into places of encounter, discovery and connection. Light becomes more than something to observe: it creates an atmosphere, changes how a space is experienced and encourages people to become part of the artwork. Through intuitive and playful interactions, Tine’s work invites audiences of all ages to explore their surroundings, notice one another and experience public space in new ways.
