Imagine a large-scale planet—pear-shaped—designed to provoke thought.
Using NASA’s open-source 3D renderings of Earth, Tine reshaped the world into a pear to draw attention to climate issues.
The artwork plays with language, drawing on the well-known British idiom “gone pear-shaped”, meaning something has gone wrong or taken a disastrous turn. The World Has Gone Pear-Shaped serves as a powerful metaphor for the state of our climate—a planet that has, quite literally, gone wrong.
I have always been fascinated by space and how seeing our blue planet from afar for the first time altered our perception of ourselves.
The photographs taken by astronauts are among the most iconic images of the last century. Seeing Earth floating in space gave us a new perspective on our place in the universe. But now, we need a fresh perspective—one that challenges us to rethink our relationship with the planet. Can we shift our mindset and get our world back into shape?
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came to see us in Leeds—I loved hearing your thoughts:
⭐ “Love this piece! I saw it during the day against the blue sky and had to come back to see it lit up at night.”
⭐ “It’s my favourite!”
⭐ “We are LOVING this!”
⭐ “Loved the pear 🍐”
