New Artwork: The World has Gone Pear Shaped

TheWorldhasGonePearShaped-TineBechStudio-PhotoGregFranklin.JPG

This 6-metre inflatable sculpture is a commentary on the impact of climate change on our planet as we know it.

The artwork plays with language, drawing on the well-known British idiom “gone pear-shaped”, meaning something has gone wrong or taken a disastrous turn. The World Has Gone Pear Shaped sculpture serves as a visual metaphor for our planet in crisis—a world where the climate has indeed “gone wrong.”

NASA’s photographs of Earth are among the most iconic images of the last century. Seeing our planet floating in space transformed our perspective. But now, more than ever, we need a new way of looking at the world.

I have always been fascinated by space, and this project connects to my previous works and drawings.

The project will premier at Light Night Leeds Oct 2023 and will tour as part of Light Up the North

A huge thank you to Light Night Leeds and LUTN for supporting this project. 💚🍐🌏
