Switch (After Dan Flavin) transforms an everyday corridor into a playful composition of light, colour and interaction.

A line of familiar and unexpected light switches runs along one wall, while vertical LED lights illuminate the space opposite. Flicking a switch changes the colour of a light, inviting visitors to experiment and create their own combinations. As more people join in, individual choices become a constantly changing collective composition.

The work takes inspiration from Dan Flavin’s use of fluorescent light, colour and architectural space, while shifting the experience towards participation and play. Here, the audience becomes the activating force.

The light switch is one of our most familiar interfaces: simple, instinctive and usually unnoticed. In Switch, it becomes an invitation to be curious. Through the small gesture of flicking a switch, visitors transform the space around them and discover how their actions connect with those of others.

At the heart of the work is an idea that runs throughout Tine Bech’s practice: that play can transform the way we encounter art, architecture and each other. Light becomes not only a material, but a social connector.
